The Clinic Has Saved My Life
I just want to say that the clinic has saved my life. Before
I used to sit and think about “when I get better” and “when
I am o.k.” but there was no hope or help in sight. I couldn’t
imagine how to do it but now I have a second chance and a chance
to have a life. Now there is hope. There is help.
When I first started the clinic I was like everyone else. I wanted
a way to get my fix every day without having to go through the
everyday hassles addicts go through. I wasn’t thinking about
a different way of life. But when I went to my intake visit and
all the nurses and counselors were talking about help and changing
my life I realized this wasn’t just a place to go and get
my dope every day. This place and the staff in it were offering
me help and all I had to do was take it and obey a few simple rules.
And these rules are not too much to ask for someone saving your
life. So I thought I’d better take this chance now because
it might never come along again. I decided to take the program
seriously and try.
I have done great. Yes, it is hard in the beginning getting up
early every day, the drive out there but after the 2nd week I
could see a difference and so could my family. And I have never
been
happier to be a mom. It was good to get up early and start my
day with my kids on my mind and not on where I was going to get
high.
Do you know how hard it is to admit that to yourself? Most addicts
can’t because that would mean they had a problem. Well, all
I can say if you have been lucky enough to be able to attend the
clinic, then do it right. Take the chance you have been offered
to get better and don’t waste it.
Now I’m not saying that I’m better because addiction
is a life long battle. Now I have hope and a chance to have a
life to be a mom and a daughter, granddaughter, sister and friend
-
a chance to be the old-new me before addiction and drug use.
So I want to say thanks to the staff of the Walker Recovery Center
for my life.
